What you can expect from this scenic 9 day Rail African Collage Safari Tour from Pretoria via Malelane and Durban to Cape Town

This panoramic 9-day sojourn commences at Rovos Rail Station at Capital Park in Pretoria. It leaves once a year. The first leg of the journey takes the train through Witbank and Middleburg and then traverses the majestic Drakensberg escarpment en-route to the lowveld of Mpumalanga.

The following morning you will receive an early wake up call to join a game drive through the famous Kruger Park. Brunch will be served in the Dining Car while the train winds its way southwards to Swaziland in time for an afternoon game drive in the Mkhaya Reserve.

The Pride of Africa departs mid morning and makes its way south through the lush cane fields and rolling hills of KwaZulu Natal, arriving in Durban late afternoon. The train, after an evening in Durban, steadily ascends the scenic escarpment through Pietermaritzburg and The Valley of a Thousand Hills en route to Ladysmith and Bethlehem.

This route takes the train past Lesotho and the highest mountains in the Drakensberg range at 3,482 metres (11 425 feet). During the night you continue onto Bloemfontein, the Free State capital, where you will enjoy a morning excursion to the Addo Elephant Park close to Port Elizabeth.

The next stop of the Pride of Africa will be Oudtshoorn for a visit to the Highgate Ostrich farm followed by another spectacular rail descent down the Montagu pass into George. A morning visit to Knysna and the surrounding attractions will complete the visit to this natural paradise.

The train sets off at midday from George travelling along the scenic Garden Route through Mossel Bay and Riversdale. The next morning, after a short visit to the KWV Brandy Distillery in Worcester, the Pride of Africa ends its magnificent collage in the Mother City of Cape Town.

Day 1: Pretoria, Gauteng, South Africa

At 10h00 the train departs from Rovos Rail's Capital Park private Station in Pretoria. It makes its way on the most scenic route in South Africa.

Day 2: Hluhluwe, Zululand, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

You will get a wake up call at 05h00 for a game drive in the Kruger Park in open vehicles. At 11h00 brunch will be served in the dining car while you travel through Komatipoort to the Swaziland border. You arrive at Mkhaya Reserve for your afternoon game drive and bush dinner at 15h30 the very afternoon. At 20h00 the train departs for the overnight journey to Hluhluwe in Zululand, South Africa.

Day 3: Durban, KwaZulu Natal, South Africa

Wake up call at 05h00 in the morning for a game drive in the Hluhluwe Game Reserve. At about 09h30 the train departs Hluhluwe for Durban and arrives in Durban at 18h00 for an evening in the city.

Day 4: Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa

You depart Durban en Route to Bloemfontein at 06h00. Spend the day at leisure on board.

Day 5: Bloemfontein, Free State, South Africa

Arrive at Bloemfontein. You will partake on a morning tour of Bloemfontein at around 10h00. At 13h00 you depart Bloemfontein on Route to Port Elizabeth.

Day 6: Addo Elephant Park, Eastern Cape, South Africa

Be ready at 09h00 for a tour of Addo Elephant National Park near Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, South Africa. At 12h00 the train departs Port Elizabeth for Oudtshoorn.

Day 7: Oudtshoorn, Western Cape, South Africa

You arrive at Oudtshoorn for an ostrich farm visit at 10h00. About 15h30 in the afternoon you will arrive at George and enjoy the afternoon at your leisure. Depart for dinner at Fancourt Golf Estate at 18h30.

Day 8: Knysna, Western Cape, Knysna

At 09hoo in the morning you depart for a morning tour of Knysna. The train departs George at 13h30 in the afternoon.

Day 9: Worcester, Western Cape, South Africa

You will arrive Worcester at 11h00 and go on a KWV Brandy Distillery tour. At 17h00 you arrive in the Mother City, Cape Town, in the Western Cape, South Africa.
